Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

Trauma can leave lasting imprints on the mind and body, often disrupting daily life in ways that feel overwhelming, confusing, or even invisible to others. Whether it’s a single distressing event or a series of painful experiences, trauma affects people across all ages and backgrounds. At LEAP, we recognize that trauma isn’t always loud or obvious, it can look like anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, difficulty forming relationships, or chronic stress.

That’s why we offer Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, a highly effective and evidence-based approach that helps individuals process and heal from trauma. EMDR doesn’t require talking in detail about the traumatic event; instead, it helps rewire how the brain stores and responds to those memories, reducing emotional distress and supporting lasting relief.

The LEAP Approach: How EMDR Helps

At LEAP, our trained EMDR providers work with children, adolescents, and adults who are navigating a wide range of challenges, including PTSD and complex trauma, anxiety and panic attacks, depression linked to unresolved experiences, grief and loss, phobias or specific fears, chronic shame or guilt and disturbing memories that feel “stuck”.

EMDR uses bilateral stimulation such as guided eye movements, tapping, or auditory tones to help the brain reprocess traumatic memories in a safe, structured way. Over time, clients often notice that these memories become less intense, and their reactions to triggers begin to shift. EMDR can be a stand-alone treatment or part of a broader care plan that includes talk therapy, coaching, or skill-building sessions.

What Makes EMDR Different?

Unlike traditional talk therapy, EMDR goes beyond insight and coping; it helps unlock the brain’s natural healing mechanisms. People often describe it as feeling more “free” after sessions, as if a weight has lifted or a mental loop has finally quieted down. For clients who’ve struggled to make progress with other forms of therapy, EMDR can be a game-changer.

Each EMDR treatment plan at LEAP is tailored to the individual, with attention to safety, readiness, and support between sessions. We walk with you every step of the way, no rushing, no judgment, just real progress at your pace.
